Debate: Did the fidget spinner craze actually help anyone or was it just wasted cash?

I sunk about 60 bucks into fidget spinners back in 2017 thinking they'd help me focus at work. They just ended up in a drawer after a month. Was anyone else burned by that hype or did they actually get some use out of them?

Yeah when you said "lighter wallets" that hit home because I had a buddy who fell for the hype hard. He bought one of those high-end metal spinners for like 50 bucks and carried it everywhere for two weeks, spinning it in meetings and at home. Thing was so loud it drove his wife nuts, and he dropped it down a sewer grate walking his dog one day. Never even got to give it to a kid or anything, just gone forever. Probably for the best though, he admitted it didn't do squat for his anxiety anyway.

60 bucks? Man that's rough. I spent like 40 on a metal one and some cheap plastic ones, thought I was buying into some kind of focus hack. Felt like a total sucker when I realized I was just spinning a bearing on my finger for zero reason, ended up giving them to a buddy's kid who lost them in a week. The whole thing was just a fad, nobody really got anything lasting out of it except lighter wallets.
