Just realized the 2016 SeaWorld "last generation" post died in a year while the 2013 Blackfish clips are still going
I fell down a rabbit hole last week comparing the two big SeaWorld backlash moments (2013 documentary vs the 2016 "last breeding" announcement) and the numbers shocked me, the old documentary clips still pull steady views and comments while the announcement post went quiet within like 12 months. The difference seems to be that one gave people a story to keep retelling and the other just gave them a headline to agree with once. Has anyone else tracked a corporate apology or pledge that had the same short shelf life?
Calling it "a story to keep retelling" kind of undersells it, Blackfish clips keep going because people share them as proof, not as a memory of some pledge. Plenty of corporate apologies die fast for the same reason, there's just nothing in them to argue about once you nod along
