Air fryer at my buddy's cabin in Tahoe burned everything in 10 minutes

Drove up there last weekend and he swore his new air fryer was calibrated perfectly, but we threw in some frozen fries and they came out black on one side and raw in the middle. Turns out he never cleaned the heating element after six months of use, and the fan was barely pushing any air. How often are you guys deep cleaning yours, or am I just stuck being the designated fry checker forever?
