Unpopular opinion: keypads by the front door are the worst spot in the house
Last month a customer in Boise asked me to move her keypad off the front entry wall after a guy selling solar panels stood on her porch and watched her punch in her code twice. I get that the front door is the classic spot and every builder wires it that way, but a keypad in the master bedroom or the hall by the garage is way harder for a stranger to eyeball. Am I the odd one for pushing interior keypads, or do some of you still think the entry wall is the only place that makes sense?
I used to roll my eyes at the idea of moving a keypad off the entry wall since that's where everyone expects it. Then a neighbor had the same thing happen with a delivery guy lingering on the porch, and now an interior spot makes total sense to me. A code that strangers can watch you type isn't really a secret anymore.
