Shoutout to the 6 people who showed up to my town's zoning meeting after a post blew up locally
I posted about a proposed gas station near the Oak Street school on our town's Facebook page last Tuesday, mostly just to vent. It got shared 214 times in two days and the next council meeting had 6 new faces I had never seen before, all of them saying they saw it online. Small win, but the algorithm did something useful for once instead of pushing weird recipes at me. Curious if anyone else has seen a local post actually move people to show up somewhere in person.
Six people out of 214 shares is kind of the point though, right? Most of those shares were just people clicking a button and feeling good about themselves for two seconds. Real question is whether those 6 stick around for the boring meetings six months from now, or if they disappear once the post stops getting likes.
