Shoutout to the Instagram algorithm for showing me my own dog's video 3 times in one week
Back in March I posted a dumb clip of my dog stealing a sock, and within 48 hours the app fed it back to me three separate times in my own feed. My mom in Boise saw it too, but here's the weird part, a random account with 12 followers had reposted it and the algorithm pushed that version harder than mine. Has anyone else had the app show them their own post like it's from a stranger?
This happened to me last summer with a video of my cat knocking a glass off the counter. I ended up going into my settings and turning off personalized ads for a bit, which sounds random but it actually slowed down how much the app recycled my own stuff back to me. The repost thing is the part that gets me though, because some account with almost no followers grabbed my clip and the app treated their copy like it was brand new. I started reporting those reposts as stolen content instead of just ignoring them, and after a few reports the copies stopped popping up in my feed. It also helped to just search my own username once a week to see if anyone swiped my stuff. Not a perfect fix but it cut the weirdness way down for me.
