Dropped $140 on a bootleg anime box set at a con in Baltimore and half the discs skip
Seller swore it was a legit Region 1 import but the subtitle timing is off by a full second and episode 7 freezes at the same spot every time. Has anyone actually gotten a refund from a dealer table or am I just eating this one?

Did you pay with a card or cash? That makes a huge difference. If it was a card you can do a chargeback and honestly that scares dealers more than anything, I've gotten my money back twice that way when a table guy played dumb. If it was cash you're pretty much stuck unless you can catch him at another con, and even then he'll just say he doesnt remember you. Next time test the discs before you walk away, most dealers have a portable player behind the table and wont mind if they're legit. Also check the print quality on the case art and the disc labels, bootlegs almost always have that blurry washed out look and the Region 1 logo will be slightly off. Sorry man, $140 stings but now you know the scam.
