The way we handle storm damage has really changed over the years

Back in the day, chainsaws were the first tool out after a storm. Now, we try to save trees and plan ahead more.

Watching utility crews trim before storms now saves so many trees.

Hurricane Sandy was a big wake up call for our town. The power company started mapping weak trees near lines before each season now. They do selective trimming in February instead of just cutting everything down after it falls. It saves a lot of mature oaks that would have been lost before.

Love that approach. Still hear people complain when the crews trim near their house though...

Heard about a buddy whose lights stayed on through a bad storm last fall because his town did that same smart trimming stuff. Pretty cool how it actually works.
