Serious question, why does everyone here say to spray monthly when my Grant Park yard got worse?
I live over by the zoo in Grant Park and sprayed my whole yard with the big box store stuff every 30 days from April through July. The ants and roaches just moved to the mulch bed by my back steps and my neighbor who does nothing has fewer bugs than me. I think monthly spraying is a waste for most yards around here and the pest guy who quoted me $89 a visit would not explain why. Has anyone actually had better luck just fixing the moisture and sealing gaps instead of spraying on a schedule?
Honestly the whole monthly spray thing is mostly a sales pitch if you ask me. Bugs live outside, they come back, the spray kills what's there that day and then a week later new ones wander in from the neighbors. Your mulch bed thing makes total sense because that stuff stays wet and shady, which is exactly where roaches want to be, and spraying the lawn never touched it anyway. Around Grant Park it's old houses with cracks and gaps everywhere plus all that shade and damp, so the real fix is water and entry points, not dumping poison on a schedule. I've seen people spend hundreds a year and still have ants marching through the kitchen, so no it's not the big deal the pest guys make it out to be. $89 a visit to spray the same stuff you can buy for $12 is wild when they won't even tell you why.
