Got burned by a broker in Denver who charged me $150 deposit and vanished, so now I check FMCSA numbers first
Booked a carrier to move my Civic from Denver to Phoenix back in March and the guy on the phone promised pickup in 2 days for $650 total. Paid the $150 deposit with my card and then his number went dead and the email bounced, turns out the DOT number he gave me belonged to a completely different company in Ohio. Now I always pull the MC number on the FMCSA site and call the actual carrier direct before I hand over a single dollar. Has anyone else run into a fake broker like this, and did you ever get your money back?
