My uncle swore the 15% tip trick was math, then the receipt came

Ate at a diner in Boise on Sunday with my uncle Ray. He does the thing where he moves the decimal on the bill to figure the tip, said 15% is just one spot over plus half. Bill was $64, he mumbled for a second and wrote $11.50. I did it on my phone and got $9.60, so he was about 2 bucks over and swore it was rounding. Does anyone else catch family members doing fake math out loud like it is a superpower?

My dad pulls the same stunt with the "double the tax" move. He read it in some old money book and now he acts like he cracked a secret code. Tax here is like 6%, so doubling it gives you 12%, not 15, but he'll fight you on it. Last time the bill was $58 and he dropped $12, which is closer to 20%. Then he blamed the city for "changing the tax rate on him." I just hand my card over and let the machine do the math now.
