Pro tip: that '50% off' bakery rack in Milwaukee is just math theater
Stood in line at a bakery on North Ave last Saturday and watched a guy buy 6 muffins for $12 because the sign said half off. Regular price there is $2 a muffin. Do the math. The deal was nothing. They just moved the numbers around so the tag looks exciting. I see this at grocery stores all the time, like the '2 for $7' chips that ring up $3.50 each anyway. Am I the only one who does the per-unit math in my head on every shelf tag, or does everyone else just trust the sticker?
Reminds me of a gas station near me that had a big sign yelling about a sale on soda. Turned out the "sale" price was the same as the normal price, they just swapped the tag for a red one so it looked like a deal. My kid fell for it and I had to explain the whole thing in the car. Took me right back to when I was a kid and my mom would stand in the aisle doing math out loud.
