Pro tip: The 30 day notice rule in my lease almost cost me $2400, and I didn't see it because it was buried in a 14 page PDF.
It took 3 calls to the property manager and a look at my city's tenant handbook before I figured out that the notice period starts the day they receive it, not the day I mail it. Has anyone else dealt with a lease clause that only makes sense after you get burned?

That whole thing about the notice starting when they receive it is huge and nobody tells you that upfront. Same deal with maintenance requests, if you call it in and they don't log it, it never happened. I started taking a picture of every letter I drop off and emailing a copy too, just so there's a paper trail with a date on it. The real trick is reading the whole lease before you sign, not after, because they count on you skimming past page 9. Learned that one the hard way myself.
