That 2019 Reddit comment about the Lucky Charms marshmallow shortage was way off, and I can prove it
I keep seeing people bring up an old r/AskReddit thread from March 2019 where a commenter swore General Mills was quietly pulling the marshmallows from Lucky Charms, and that it would blow up as a cost-cutting scandal. I pulled the Wayback Machine snapshot of the cereal's own nutrition page from that same month and the ingredient list matches 2018 and 2020 almost word for word, no marshmallow change at all. What actually happened was a supplier shift in the oat flour, which people misread as a marshmallow cut. If you're digging up old posts for the next big thing, check the actual product pages before you share a comment. Has anyone else run into one of these 'prediction' posts that fell apart once you looked at the source?
Totally get the frustration. Old forum comments get passed around like facts, and then you dig into it and the whole thing falls apart. Wayback snapshots are the best tool for this, and more people should check them before repeating stuff.
