I was digging through old bookmarks last month and found a thread from r/politics back in 2008, right after the financial bailout. Someone posted a 50 word comment about how the media would start treating every story like a sports game, with team jerseys and all. At the time I thought it was just a cynical rant, I even replied 'dude, chill.' But now I see that exact pattern in every major headline, especially the way we pick sides before the facts even come out. Anyone else notice how that old comment aged better than most front page articles from that year?

Man, that hits way too close to home... I saw it play out at my neighbor's HOA meeting last month. It's like we've got this reflex now, pick a side first and treat the other side like the enemy, then work backwards to find reasons why we're right. That 2008 comment wasn't a prediction, it was just describing human nature with better timing.
