My history teacher in Columbus spent 2 weeks on the Wright brothers and 2 minutes on everyone else
Honestly I still think about this. Back in 1998 at my high school in Columbus, Mr. Halvorsen spent two solid weeks on the Wright brothers and then blew through every other inventor in about 2 minutes each, Thomas Edison got maybe 90 seconds. I remember him saying 'the bicycle shop is where it all happened' and the whole room nodding like it was gospel. Now every time I see a Wright brothers doc or a museum exhibit I think about how much of that fame came from one teacher's pet subject and a good PR story about a bike shop. Ngl the actual flying stuff they did was huge, but the way we rank these dead guys feels so random. Did anyone else grow up with a teacher who decided which dead people mattered, and which ones got the 2 minute speed round?
