Went from paper tags to writing service dates right on the fork steerer with a paint pen
For a long time every tune up that came through my stand got a paper tag wired to the bars with the date and torque notes scribbled on it. Problem was customers would rip them off the second they got home, and six weeks later I couldn't tell you if I'd touched their headset or not. Last spring I started writing the date and my initials right on the steerer tube with a white paint pen, plus a tiny mark for the last time I serviced the hub cones. Now when a bike shows up I can see at a glance that the last guy (me) did the bottom bracket 14 months ago and it's due again. Strips off with a rag and some alcohol, no damage, no lost paper. Anyone else marking frames instead of tagging them, or am I the only one ruining paint pens on steerers?
