Changed my mind on coal forges after 4 years of swearing by propane
I ran a propane forge for 4 years in my garage in Reno and I would tell anybody who listened that coal was dirty and slow, but then my propane regulator froze up mid-project last week in 18 degree weather and my neighbor let me borrow his old coal forge. The heat was way more even across a 8 inch billet and I could actually see the color change without squinting through the side port, and honestly the clinker cleanup wasn't the nightmare I remembered from a class I took back in 2019. Did anyone else switch back to coal after years on gas, and how do you deal with the smoke in a smaller shop?
