I picked heavy euro games over quick fillers for game night, and it cost me two players
About 4 months ago I decided to swap our usual 30 minute warm-up games for a deep 3 hour euro like a heavy worker placement. I thought everyone wanted that crunchy, thinky feel after we kept playing stuff like Love Letter and Codenames. Turns out two of my regulars actually hated it, they said it felt like doing taxes on a Friday. I tried to sell them on the theme and the clever mechanics but they just wanted to talk and laugh, not plan 6 moves ahead. Now I keep the light games in the rotation and only bust out the big box when at least 3 people specifically ask for it. Has anyone else had a game night split over complexity like this, or am I the only one who misread the table that badly?
