Tried chasing a weld crack with a dye penetrant kit on a 30 year old tank and got a result I still cant explain
I picked up a $45 dye penetrant kit last month to check a seam on an old tank at a shop in Gary, and the red bleed showed a crack about 3 inches past where I figured it stopped. The odd part is the tank had been sitting cold for two days and I still got a clean bleed line, which has me wondering if the temp even matters like I assumed. Do you trust a dye test on cold plate or do you always warm the metal up first before you believe what you see?
