Guy at the Nashville bindery said grain direction doesn't matter for thin books, and now I'm second guessing myself
I was picking up some 60lb text stock at a shop in Nashville last week and the guy running the guillotine told me grain direction is basically a myth for anything under 100 pages. I've always folded with the grain out of habit, so now I'm wondering if I've been wasting effort on my little chapbooks. Half of me thinks he was just tired and wanted to go home, the other half thinks maybe I'm overthinking a step that does not matter on small runs. What do you all do for short books, grain or no grain?
