My old boss at the bindery in Salem said to always grain my paper first, and 15 years later I still hear his voice
He was right, I skipped it on a rush job last month and the boards warped within 2 days. Curious if anyone else still follows advice from a mentor who has been out of the trade for years now.
That line about still hearing his voice 15 years later really hits. I've noticed this same thing in totally different parts of life, like my grandma telling me to always fold fitted sheets a certain way or a coach saying to check my knots twice before climbing. Those little rules stick around way longer than the person who taught them, and they pop up right when you need them. It's kind of wild how a simple tip from someone becomes this thing you carry forever, almost like a tool you didn't know you packed. Skipping steps always seems fine until it isn't, and then boom, warped boards or a sheet that won't fit in the closet. Guess that's the whole point of those lessons, they save you from yourself later.
