Warning: the $14 camp chair I grabbed at the Pigeon Forge outfitter snapped on the second night
Stopped at a little outfitter outside Pigeon Forge on a Smokies trip 3 weeks ago and grabbed a folding camp chair off the clearance rack for $14. Looked solid in the store. Welded joint on the back leg. Felt heavy. Got it to camp and sat down that first evening and it was fine, so I figured I got a deal. Second night I lean back a little and the weld just pops, dumped me straight onto a root in the dark. Tossed it in the truck and looked closer the next morning, and the weld was maybe half the thickness it should be, just a blob of slag on one side. The outfitter says clearance is final, no return after 30 days anyway, and the company that made it won't even answer my email. I'm not out a lot of money but the whole point of a chair is that it holds you up. Do I just eat it or is there a weld shop that'd tack this thing back together for less than a new one?
