Mortar mix calculator lied to me, doubled my time on a garden wall

Spent last Tuesday on a 40 foot retaining wall, the app said 12 bags of type S would cover it but I ran out at 30 feet and had to drive 25 minutes back to the yard for 4 more. Ended up taking 9 hours instead of the 5 I planned, has anyone else had trouble trusting those online calculators for tricky corners and returns?
