That fancy mixer I bought for pointing work, total waste of $600
Bought a big paddle mixer for repointing old brick in South Philly. Thought it'd save time mixing lime mortar by hand. First job, it threw the mix too fast. Got air bubbles and the color looked off. Had to redo two walls anyway. Sold it on Craigslist for $150 after three months. Anyone else regret buying gear for one specialty job?

Wait, what kind of lime mortar were you mixing? Because the bagged stuff from the hardware store is way different from the stuff you get from a lime supplier. I've seen guys blame the mixer when the real problem was they bought the wrong premix and it was never going to color match the old mortar anyway. Did you test the color on a small patch before you committed to the whole wall?
