Warning: I set my line pins by eye for 6 years until a laser level caught me

Laid 400 feet of wall in Tulsa using a string line I thought was true, then my new helper asked why the corners leaned in, so has anyone else trusted their gut over a level for that long?

My dad built fences for 30 years and never owned a laser, he used a bubble level on a 2x4 and a prayer. I watched him set a 200 foot run in Oklahoma heat one summer and the whole thing looked like a roller coaster when the sun hit it just right. He swore it was straight until a surveyor came out for a property line and busted out laughing. We tore down 80 feet of it that weekend and he still blamed the ground.
