Got burned at the Puyallup tool swap and now I won't buy anything I can't test
Bought a used worm drive saw for $85 from a guy in the parking lot at the Puyallup swap meet, got it home and the arbor was so bent the blade wobbled a quarter inch. How do you all check used power tools on the spot before money changes hands?
Learned this the hard way with more than just tools. Bought a used pickup off a guy in a grocery store lot and didn't check the frame, and it was cracked clean through. Now I test everything before money moves, whether it's a saw or a truck or a lawn mower off a driveway. Fire up the tool, run it, listen for weird noises, spin the blade by hand to feel for wobble, and check the arbor nut. If the seller won't let you plug it in and hear it run, that's your answer right there. People get real jumpy when you want to test something, and the honest ones never mind at all. What kind of test do you do on a saw you can't plug in at the swap?
