I switched from compression fittings to crimp rings on drops and I owe my old foreman an apology
My old foreman Ray kept telling me to stop using compression fittings on exterior drops because they fail after a couple winters, but I figured he was just set in his ways and kept doing it my way. Then last February I had to go back to a house in Rochester three times in six weeks because water kept getting in and killing the fitting, and the customer was getting pretty hot about it. I finally bought a crimp tool and a bag of rings, and I finished the next 14 drops with zero callbacks through the rest of winter and spring. Took me about two extra minutes per job but I am not crawling back up a ladder in the snow to fix the same thing twice. Anybody else stubborn about fittings until something finally made them switch?
