Heat stakes vs. screws for plastic camera shells, cost me a week

I stripped 3 screw mounts on a Canon AE-1 shell last month with a cheap driver, but heat staking the new plastic posts took me 20 minutes and felt rock solid. Are we overthinking threaded inserts for modern bodies, or am I just working on too much old gear?
