PSA: Skip the heat gun on Canon FD lens barrels, a hair dryer got mine apart
I know the common advice is to hit stuck FD lens barrels with a heat gun, but that trick cost me a focus ring on a 50mm f1.4 last month. My heat gun runs way too hot and melted a sliver of the plastic trim before anything loosened. Tried a cheap hair dryer on high instead, held it about four inches away for a minute each pass, and the barrel came apart clean in about 20 minutes. Any of you got a better method for stuck filter rings on these old lenses?
