Should've listened to the old guy at the swap meet who told me temp control isn't a luxury when you're reflowing 0.3mm pitch connectors, so what's the one tool you cheaped out on and immediately regretted?
A $25 iron is fine for splicing wires or tinning a pad here and there. The problem is people use them for stuff they were never built to do, then act shocked when a .3mm connector turns into a puddle. Temp control matters when you're working small, sure, but half the guys frying boards would do the same damage with a $200 station because they don't know how to use it. The tool isn't the whole story.
