I watched three apology videos in one night and only one felt real, here is why
Last Friday I sat down with my roommate and we decided to score three different YouTuber apologies we had bookmarked. The first guy spent 11 minutes talking about how hard this has been for him and never once named what he did. The second one got specific fast, she listed the exact tweet, the date, and who it hurt, then said she would donate her next two months of Patreon money to a group in Atlanta. The third one kept saying sorry but kept checking the comments, you could see his eyes move the whole time. My roommate thinks I am too easy to win over with a dollar amount, but I swear it was the part where she paused and let the silence sit that got me. Does anyone else judge these things by what they actually name out loud, or am I the only one scoring apologies like a test?
Scoring these like a test, that part made me laugh, but I have to push back on one thing. You said she paused and let the silence sit, and that got you, not the money. I don't buy it. She named the exact tweet and the date and then wrote a check with actual numbers attached, and those two things are doing the heavy lifting. The pause only works because you already know she is good for it. A pause from the first guy would have just been nine more seconds of him staring at his own reflection. Plenty of people can cry on camera but most of them can't hand you a receipt.
