A guy on a job in Des Moines told me he tacks his pad down with staples before stretching, and I quit doing it my way
I've always just let the pad float under the carpet, but he said he's been stapling the pad at the seams and edges for 15 years and never gets a buckle call back. Tried it on a 3 room job last week and the stretch felt way more solid. Any of you staple your pad, or am I overdoing it?
Only time I stapled a pad was when I dropped the box of staples and figured I'd just use the loose ones, and the customer still called a month later about a wrinkle anyway. From what I've seen, stapling at the seams and edges does keep things from shifting under the stretch, so your three room test isn't just in your head. The pad stays put and the carpet takes the tension instead of dragging the pad along with it.
