That moment I stopped fighting the tack strip and started working with it

Last month I was doing a bedroom in Austin and kept hitting this weird spot where the tack strip was too close to the wall, so the carpet kept buckling no matter how hard I stretched it. Took me two hours of pulling and cussing before I just stopped, sat on the floor, and looked at it different. I realized the strip was nailed at an angle from whoever put it in years ago, so I pulled the whole section and replaced it with fresh strip set back a half inch further. After that the carpet laid flat on the first stretch and I finished the room in 40 minutes. It made me rethink every time I blamed the carpet or the padding when the real issue was the prep underneath. Now I check strip placement before I even roll out the goods, takes me 5 extra minutes and saves me all that headache. Anyone else run into hidden framing or old strip issues that made you switch up your standard install check?
