The blown seam at that Reno hotel job changed my overlap habit
Was at a casino remodel in Reno backing a 12 foot seam and it pulled apart in under 30 minutes. Turned out the carpet had been sitting in the sun too long, so now I always check the backing before I even cut, and I use a tack strip to hold the overlap firm. Anyone else run into product that looked fine but just wouldn't bond?

Man, that sucks. Nothing worse than a seam blowing after you already set the iron down and walked away. Had a similar thing happen with some commercial grade stuff that looked perfect, but the backing was dry rotted from warehouse storage. You cant always tell until its too late. Good call on the tack strip trick though, I started doing the same after a job where the overlap kept curling up on me. It makes a huge difference when the glue is fighting you.
