Why does new carpet always have to get wet right after install
Put in a nice mid-grade nylon carpet in a master bedroom yesterday, looked perfect. Woke up this morning to a call from the homeowner saying their cat puked on it overnight. I mean, I don't blame the cat but why does this always happen within 24 hours of a fresh install. Spent my lunch break driving back over there with a spot cleaner and some enzyme stuff. Anyone else feel like their work is a magnet for pet accidents on day one.

Tackling it with the enzyme spray before sealing did the trick for me.

Used to roll my eyes when guys would complain about this stuff... thought they were just being dramatic about bad luck. But after having a brand new carpet get a coffee stain before the glue even dried on a commercial job, I totally get it now. Something about that fresh pile just attracts chaos like a magnet, I swear. Had to completely change my whole approach and start rolling out that cheap protection stuff right after install as a standard move.

Read somewhere that cats specifically target fresh carpet because the new texture feels different to their paws and they want to reclaim it with their scent. Something about the glue and fiber smell being unfamiliar to them. Not sure if it's true but it lines up with how my own cat acts after I lay new stuff down at my place. She'll walk across it all weird and then leave a hairball somewhere in the middle of the room like clockwork.
