My nephew got a "premium" smoothie at the mall in Austin and it was $14 for ice and powder
So my sister and I took her kid to the Barton Creek mall about two weeks ago and he spots this new smoothie kiosk with a neon sign and a line halfway down the hall. I'm thinking fine, it's a treat, how bad can it be. The kid orders the "recovery blend" and I watch the guy scoop what looks like the same powder tub I got at Costco for $19, add a scoop of ice, and blend it for maybe 20 seconds. Then he rings it up and it's $14 and change. I asked the guy what was in it and he goes, very serious, "plant based protein and adaptogens." My nephew drank half and handed it to me and honestly it tasted like a chalky banana. The powder tub on the shelf behind him had the label turned away the whole time, which I noticed after the fact. It's a mall kiosk, so I get the rent is high, but $14 for a scoop of powder and ice feels like they're just pricing the neon sign. Has anyone found a decent smoothie spot around south Austin that doesn't charge you for the word "adaptogen"?
