Question about that crying apology video from the guy who got caught last month, do tears actually prove anything or is it just acting? | Celebrity Apology Breakdown - Vivisector
Question about that crying apology video from the guy who got caught last month, do tears actually prove anything or is it just acting?
My roommate and I were watching a celeb apology clip on the couch in our Dallas apartment last Tuesday around midnight, and he goes 'if they cry, it's real.' I argued the opposite, that a publicist books the crying like a scene, and 4 back to back apology videos that month had the same pause and eye wipe. So now I'm stuck between two views, one, tears mean real regret, and two, tears are just timing and a cheap tactic. How do you all score crying in an apology, does it move the needle for you or make it worse?
When you say tears are "booked like a scene," are you talking about real tears or just the eye wipe motion? Because those are two very different things and I think the eye wipe is the bigger tell. Anyone can dab under their eyes with a tissue, that move costs nothing and buys a ton of sympathy. Actual tears showing up on camera are harder to fake on command, but even then, stage actors do it every night with the right trick. So my real question for you is this: if a person cries but then goes right back to doing the exact thing they apologized for, did the tears ever matter in the first place?
