Creosote fact that made me change my whole approach
I was reading through the NFPA 211 guide last month and found out creosote can ignite at only 451 degrees Fahrenheit. That's way lower than I thought. I always figured it needed a roaring chimney fire temp to catch. Turns out the stuff is basically a fire waiting to happen if you let it build up even half an inch. Now I do a flashlight check after every second cleaning job. Has anyone else had a close call because they underestimated how hot creosote burns?

That "only 451 degrees" part got me thinking too. It's kind of like how I used to think my car's oil would only break down at really high temperatures, but after a mechanic friend told me it degrades way sooner if you don't change it regularly, I started paying way more attention. Same deal with dust bunnies behind my fridge - always figured they were just ugly, but then I read they can actually feed a small electrical fire. It's wild how many things in our homes are ticking along just fine until they hit that one specific temperature or condition we never think about.

Laughing at how @the_brian basically described my own dryer vent saga. Pulled out enough lint to build a whole second dryer, I swear. The kicker? I thought I was being responsible by cleaning the lint trap every load. Turns out the real enemy was hiding in the dark, plotting its fiery takeover. Guess that's what I get for trusting an appliance that just sits there spinning my socks into knots.

Dryer vents are another one people sleep on. I pulled a lint trap out after cleaning it for years and realized there was a thick layer of crust built up inside the actual duct that I couldn't even see. Took a brush kit from the hardware store and cleared out enough lint to stuff a pillow. You don't think about it until your dryer starts taking two cycles to dry a load or you smell something burning. Ever had a fire scare from something ordinary in your house?
