That 'shocked celebrity' thumbnail reused the same fake face from 2019

I was scrolling through YouTube last night and saw a thumbnail claiming a singer was 'devastated' by a fan reaction. The face looked super familiar, so I did a reverse image search and found the exact same shocked expression in a thumbnail from 2019. Same photo, different story, zero new context. It got me wondering how many of these are just recycled stock reactions passed off as fresh moments. Has anyone else spotted a thumbnail they recognized from another video entirely? I feel like these channels are getting lazier, not smarter.

lol I gotta push back on this a little because honestly, I think you're looking at it wrong. These channels aren't being lazy, they're being smart in a really annoying way. The whole point of a thumbnail is to trigger a quick emotional reaction before you even read the title, and if a shocked face worked in 2019, it's still gonna work today because human brains haven't changed that much. It's like how movie trailers reuse the same sound effects or how every ad uses the same smiling family, it's not about being fresh, it's about being familiar enough to stop your thumb. Yeah it's frustrating when you notice it, but most people don't watch old thumbnails side by side, and the algorithm doesn't care if a face is recycled as long as the click rate stays up. I'd argue they're actually getting better at picking images that work, even if that means they use the same tired expression over and over.
