Vent: A whole week of 90 degree days in Portland killed my vegetable garden

I watered every morning and still lost my tomato plants to blossom end rot after that heatwave in July, has anyone else dealt with crops failing from extreme heat spikes?

Man that July heatwave was absolutely BRUTAL for gardens here. My tomatoes got nailed by blossom end rot too, even with consistent watering and mulch. It's like the heat just overrides everything you do right. The squash leaves turning into crispy chips is exactly what happened to my neighbor's plants, he was so frustrated he almost gave up gardening entirely. Sometimes the weather just decides it's going to win no matter how well you prepare.

Damn that sucks. I'm in Portland too and that July heatwave wiped out half my squash before I even noticed the damage. The leaves just curled up and crisped despite watering twice a day. It's brutal when you do everything right and the weather still wins.

Yo wait, your squash just crisped up like that? My buddy had the same thing happen with his zucchini last summer. He was out there watering every morning and evening, even put up a shade cloth, but the leaves still turned into potato chips by August. It's wild how one heat spike can just undo months of work. He ended up tearing it all out and planting beans that somehow survived the rest of the season.
