Carnegie Mellon grad school story
That time I did the math on my aluminum temps and got it backwards, scrapped 30 parts at a shop in Cleveland. I still remember the foreman walking over and just saying 'you're gonna want to double check that one, bud.' It took me two days to figure out I had the probe offset sign flipped, but honestly I learned more from that screw up than any training video. Anyone else ever have a brain fart like that cost you a batch? How do you catch yourself before hitting cycle start?

Ha, the foreman was nicer than most. Around here you'd just get a long stare and a walk away, then the scrap bin would do the talking for him. Good on you for figuring out the probe offset thing though, I know guys who'd still be blaming the machine or the metal. Those sign flips are sneaky because the numbers look close enough to right that your brain just skips past them. Two days of pain for a lesson you'll never forget is a fair trade if you ask me. My trick before cycle start is a dry run with the first part clamped in air, just watch the numbers move where they should. Saved my butt more than once.
