Took a 2 hour setup course and found out my spindle speed was the problem all along
Honestly, I've been running a Haas VF-2 for 3 years and blamed chatter on my tool holders, my fixturing, even the coolant mix. Then I sat through a free setup class at a local tooling supplier in Cleveland last Tuesday, and they showed me a chart that made me feel like an idiot. I was running a 1/2 inch end mill at 8,000 RPM when the recommended chip load said I should be near 5,500 for the material I cut. I adjusted it on my next job and the surface finish went from garbage to glass. Has anyone else found that one dumb parameter that was screwing up their parts for years?
