Tricked my mill into holding tolerance with a cold can of soda
I was fighting a finish pass on 4140 that kept creeping about 0.0008 oversize all afternoon in a warm building. On a hunch I set a cold can of Coke against the column, let it sit ten minutes, then ran the cut and it landed dead on. Now I keep a mini fridge near the machine and swap cans between roughing and finishing passes. Anyone else cooling a hot column instead of just cranking the offsets, or is my building just that bad?
