I chose the $3.99 rack copy of X-Men #4 over the slabbed one at a shop in Columbus and I still cant decide if I messed up
About 15 years back I had twenty bucks and a free afternoon at a shop on High Street in Columbus. There were two copies of X-Men #4 on the wall, a beat up reader for $3.99 and a graded 6.0 for $18. I grabbed the cheap one because I wanted to actually read it, and I did, cover to cover, twice that night. Now it sits in a box with a crease down the middle, and the graded copy would have paid for a car by now. Anyone else pick the beat up copy just to read it instead of the slab?
The graded copy flipping for car money is a stretch unless it was a way higher grade than 6.0. X-Men #4 6.0s go for a few hundred, not new Honda money. Reading it twice that night is worth something though, you actually got the story out of it.
