The 2000 AD backlog finally clicked for me after 15 years of avoiding it
I always wrote off British comics as too dense until a guy at the Baltimore Comic-Con handed me a Judge Dredd issue from 1983 and told me to read it like a cop show, so I tried 5 issues that weekend and now I'm hunting down every case file from that era, has anyone else had a late-in-life flip on a title they ignored forever?

Reading it "like a cop show" is exactly the problem though. That framing flattens Dredd into just another procedural, when half the fun of the early stuff is the goofy satire and the weird future slang you have to sit with for a bit. If you train yourself to skim for the plot beats, you miss why the whole thing works. Five issues in a weekend also seems way too fast to really get it, honestly.
