Warning: gatekeeping new readers out of your local shop is killing the hobby
A guy at my local shop in Akron told a teenager she was 'doing comics wrong' for starting with the movies, and it took everything in me not to step in. We all started somewhere messy, so why act like a random Spider-Man run nobody even prints anymore is the only real entry point?
That girl walking in after seeing a movie is literally how Marvel got huge in the first place, the books came after the cartoons and shows for a ton of us. The old run that guy is guarding probably only exists because some kid in 1972 saw a cartoon and bugged his dad for the comic. Pushing her out just means the shop has one less person buying stuff in five years when that dusty back issue still hasn't sold.
