Appreciation post: the old diver who said grease the O-ring, not the threads, changed how I pack my hat
I always thought that was an old timer's superstition until a guy named Sal showed me his logbook from 22 years in the Gulf and a cracked ring that cost him a 3 hour job. Now I'm stuck in the middle of it: half the crew says dry threads and a greased ring, the other half says grease both and quit overthinking it. What convinced you one way or the other, or am I overthinking a $4 part?
