Wrote off the dive knife sheath my old supervisor called useless, then it saved my butt on a pipeline in Galveston
I always figured the guy who told me to tape my dive knife to the inside of my calf was just stuck in his old Navy ways, so I kept mine loose on a belt loop for the first two years of working the Gulf. Last Tuesday on a 40 foot pipeline job near Galveston my primary knife slipped off in zero vis and I found the backup exactly where he said to put it, taped upside down on my inner calf, and cut myself free from a snagged lift bag line in under 10 seconds. Any of you run a fixed sheath instead of the loose belt setup, and did anyone else have a close call before they switched?
