Warning: that 'quick fix' for boot loops made my Tuesday job take 6 hours

Had a client last week in Austin bring in a laptop that kept restarting. Of course they already searched the web and tried that registry edit everyone pushes. Machine wasn't even reaching Windows, so that tip was useless. They were a bit embarrassed but also defensive, said "every forum said this works." I get it, but that trick only helps if you can get to Safe Mode. We spent most of the afternoon pulling the drive, imaging it, and testing RAM. Turned out the RAM stick was loose, not even dead. Pop it back in and it boots fine. The 5 minute fix they tried made them think it was software, so they sat on it for a week before calling me. Anyone else deal with customers who trust a random YouTube comment over a proper diagnostic? What's your go-to way to gently reset that expectation without making them feel dumb?
